Director, PuceCircle Stevia Institute

Priscilla Samuel, PhD Dr. Priscilla Samuel serves as the Director of the PureCircle Stevia Institute (PCSI) and is also a Director for Scientific & Regulatory Affairs at PureCircle USA Inc. The PCSI is funded by PureCircle and works internationally to build awareness of stevia through science-based education and outreach to health professionals, consumers, food and beverage manufacturers, public affairs leaders and scientists.

Dr. Samuel has about 25 years of nutrition leadership experience across academia and the food industry, providing technical and strategic leadership on global nutrition, science education, clinical and pre-clinical research, innovation & product development, and science & regulatory affairs. Dr. Samuel has collaborated with academic experts in several countries on a range of research topics, has successfully led efforts to gain approval for health claims, has extensively presented at and chaired many symposia at scientific conferences, and has numerous publications. Her research areas have included; cholesterol lowering & cardiovascular disease, cognition, nutrient density, appetite control & weight management, gut health, dietary fibers, sweeteners & rare sugar metabolism, sodium & hypertension, infant nutrition, and mineral metabolism. She is also the co-editor of a recent book on “Fiber Ingredients – Food Applications & Health Benefits”, and also holds patents in the areas of iron EDTA as well as infant nutrition. She has partnered with and served as industry representative with several scientific, trade and NGO organizations including the American Society for Nutrition, the American Heart Association, a member of the Institute of Medicine’s Food Forum, the International Life Sciences Institute, and the International Food Information Council. Among others, she is a member of the American Society for Nutrition and a member representative to the International Stevia Council.

Dr. Samuel earned a Ph.D. in Human Nutrition with minors in both Business as well as Public Health from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville, a Master of Science in Human Nutrition from the University of North Carolina-Greensboro, and a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition & Dietetics as well as Child Development from Bangalore University-India.
