New Stevia Article Released In Nutrition Today By Dr. Margaret Ashwell
The journal of Nutrition Today, a partner publication of the American Society for Nutrition (ASN), has just published an article on stevia in its May/June 2015 issue titled, “Stevia, Nature’s Zero-Calorie Sustainable Sweetener. A New Player in the Fight Against Obesity” The article provides the reader with an excellent overview of stevia, its sustainable production, metabolism and safety, and its use in energy-reduced foods and beverages. The author also discusses the role of non-nutritive sweeteners and stevia’s promise as a tool to help lower energy intakes, which may help with the reduction and prevention of obesity.
The article is authored by Dr. Margaret Ashwell, consultant with Ashwell Associates, formerly a research scientist with the Medical Research Council and Science Director of the British Nutrition Foundation. She is also an advisor to the Pure Circle Stevia Institute.
“Stevia has become a very important tool for helping people to manage their weight today while allowing them to maintain the sweet tastes they enjoy,” Ashwell said. “Hopefully, this article will provide some insight as to how stevia works within the body and the benefits people can obtain from using it as a natural origin, zero-calorie sweetener.”
